Premium quality is used by dairy farms. It is also harvested at pre-bloom state and must have a protein of 20 percent or greater and a RFV of 150-180.
Good quality alfalfa is used by horse owners and is harvested at 10 percent bloom and will have a protein ranging from 18-20 percent. The RFV ranges from 125-150.

Fair quality is best suited for feeding dry cows and other livestock. The protein is at 17 percent or less with a RFV of 125 or less.
